Graduation Day

After a dry run last year, today I graduated Pre-K and said good-bye to Blue Bird Day School where I've been since soon after we got to America.

I opened the show with an alphabet poem.

We lead the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance and stood with our hands on our hearts for the national anthem (Mummy says she really needs to teach me Advance Australia Fair)

Each of us told the audience what we want to be when we grow up (Thanks for the inspiration Aunty Emma - I am going to be a magician because they do cool tricks

After a dance I got a bit upset. I won't tell mummy or daddy why, so I won't tell you either

I was just keen to leave - didn't want to stay for pizza or even for cake

Now Pre-K is over and in September I'll start Elementary School.

Sailing away..

This weekend is the  Memorial Day holiday. It marks the official start of summer in the US so what better way to spend our Saturday morning than on the water.

Daddy took us sailing on the Potomac

I wasn't keen to begin with but I liked ducking under the sails as we changed direction and had fun at the tiller a few times.

It was fun but exhausting - I fell asleep in the car on the way home

South of the border.. down Mexico way

We just spent a lovely 5 days in Playa del Carmen

We stayed at a hotel just up from the beach and I loved going swimming in the pool; playing in the surf and building things with sand

I was happy to see the Mayan ruins because archaeology is kind of like paleontology. There were also lots of lizards and iguanas at Tulum so it was almost like real dinosaurs.

The idea of swimming in a cave was much less appealing but after a few tears I quite liked swimming through the stalactites holding onto mummy and daddy. I even thought it was cool to see the bats flying about the caves and the little fish in the water.

At first, I was unsure about swimming with the turtles too - I thought they would be slimy but I was happy once I discovered we were going to see the turtles at a beach. I was a boy in a buoy being pushed along by Daddy to the deep water so we could look through our goggles at the huge sea turtles.

I developed a new appreciation for corn chips and loved seeing the Mayan flying dancers.

I am becoming quiet proficient at airline crosswords (with Mummy's help) and finding all the places I've been in the US on the route map on the inflight magazine.

A nice trip - but of course it is always nice to be back in your own bed.

The top fell off my hat so I sported a Kylee circa 1988 look for a while

Belated Easter post

For Easter we took a little roadtrip to Culpeper and Richmond

I was happy because we got to stay in a hotel with a heated pool and mummy and daddy were happy because they did some antiquing.

None of us were happy that we hit a traffic jam on our way out of Washington and spent 2 hours travelling just one mile. It meant we missed out on the Bakery treats in Culpeper - they were all sosld by the time we arrived at lunchtime

Instead we stopped for yummy wood-fired pizza at a local deli
Not only did the hotel have a pool it had great wifi and some good space for practicing walking in mum's cowgirl boots.
On the way home we went for a bit of a walk in the woods and I got the chance to do some fossil hunting. Then we headed back to Arlington to see what the Easter Bunny had brought (minecraft hat! score!)

Our last snow storm (hopefully)

On Thursday it started snowing at 8am and didn't stop until after dark
Everything was shut so Mummy, Daddy and I were all home together
Daddy and I made gingerbread animals and we went out to play in the snow a few times
It is so much fun - but so wet

Let it snow

We had our first snow day on Tuesday this week and yesterday we had a big snow storm.
The snow fell from 10am until just after 5 when it turned to sleet
Everything is very white
Daddy and I made a great snow dinosaur in the front yard and had lots of fun having a snow ball fight.

Down in N'awlins (dancin' in the streets)

Of course you have to go south for Australia Day - so we headed down to NOLA - New Orleans Louisiana

We had such a great time checking out the food and the music in the streets.

I ate red beans and rice on Bourbon street and had a strawberry smoothie at the French Market that was so amazingly good I begged a second trip. I fell in love with French stick.

We saw some beautiful old houses in the Garden District and spent a lot of time enjoying the sun and the songs in the French Quarter; Daddy was keen to put his hand in the very dirty Mississippi; and we had a wonder through the oldest cemetery in New Orleans where they bury everyone above ground (because the ground is so wet).

I got stung by a bee on my first day - my first ever bee sting but it made everything else seem so much better - especially when I got a bendy Joker figure at the 50s store where mummy got a new dress and a Ouija board cardigan
